Local Police
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior official stated the incident made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
